• Please make sure to fill out the registration form, and show archives staff an ID (student ID, driver’s license, or passport), before accessing the materials.
  • Only pencils and laptop computers may be used within the collections. Scanners and tape recorders are not permitted.
  • All large backpacks, purses, and coats must be checked in and will be stored securely by archives staff.
  • Food, beverages, and chewing gum, are not permitted within the collections.
  • If a copy of a fragile item is available the researcher will be required to consult the copy as opposed to the original. Permission to view the original will be determined by the Archivist.
  • Unless otherwise authorized, researchers may consult only one book or one box of manuscripts at a time. A researcher requesting both book and manuscript materials must consult them separately unless otherwise authorized.
  • All materials consulted must be handled with great care. Researchers handling materials carelessly will be denied further access to the collections.
  • Materials must remain on the table during use. They are not to be placed in the lap or propped against the table edge.
  • When consulting some types of material, researchers will be required to wear gloves supplied by the department. Loose photographs will always require gloves.
  • Researchers are held responsible for all materials charged to them. Materials may not be transferred from one researcher to another.
  • Cameras are allowed in the reading room, but flash must always be off when photographing items.
  • Cell phone rings must be off when in the reading room doing research.
