On behalf of the Library Staff, I would like to extend a warm welcome to new and returning students, faculty, and staff!
We're kicking off the fall semester with a celebration! All members of the Stevens community are invited to celebrate the Samuel C. Williams Library's 50th birthday on Wednesday, August 28 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
To commemorate this milestone, the Archives & Special Collections department presents Discovery & Exploration: The History of the Stevens Library. This exhibit, featuring historic photographs, documents, and other ephemera, traces the evolution of the Stevens campus library from its humble origins in Edwin A. Stevens Hall in 1871(see photo below) to the opening of the Samuel C. Williams Library in 1969.
You will also have a chance to meet your librarians and learn about the Library’s services and research tools. There will be light refreshments and cupcakes on a first come first serve basis. We hope to see you there!
This year, we hope you'll get involved by attending a meeting of the Student Library Advisory Board to let us know how we're doing and help us make positive improvements. We hope you will check out the Library Instagram and the Library Archives & Special Collections Instagram. Students, faculty, and staff alike are welcome to make an appointment to view historic photographs, yearbooks, documents, paintings, and unique materials in the Archives & Special Collections, or perhaps you may be interested in listening to excerpts from interviews with alumni & faculty as part of the Voices from Castle Point oral history project.
Please remember the Library is here for you, whether you need assistance in finding reliable scholarly journals & materials, or if you need to borrow a laptop or print, copy, or scan. We encourage you to attend a research workshop, a trivia event, International Games Day, and take part in Stevens 150th Anniversary Celebration events at the Library.
There's something for everyone at the Samuel C. Williams Library and we hope you'll reach out to us with your questions.
We wish you all the best for a happy and successful academic year ahead!
