How to Cite Podcasts (MLA & APA)

MLA

Cite a podcast as a digital file per section 5.7.18 of the MLA Handbook. Determine the type of work to cite (e.g., article, image, sound recording) and cite appropriately. End the entry with the name of the digital format (e.g., PDF, JPEG file, Microsoft Word file, MP3). If the work does not follow traditional parameters for citation, give the author’s name, the name of the work, the date of creation, and the medium of publication. Use Digital file when the medium cannot be determined.

Example:

Ronald, Pamela. “The Case for Engineering Our Food.” Ted.com. March 2015. Podcast. 8 March 2016.

APA

For all podcasts (video and audio), provide as much information as possible; not all of the following information will be available. Possible addition identifiers may include Producer, Director, etc.

Example:

Ronald, P. (2015, March). The Case for Engineering Our Food.TED Talks. Podcast retrieved from https://www.ted.com/talks/pamela_ronald_the_case_for_engineering_our_food?language=en
