APRIL 16: Deadline to CHANGE party affiliation for registered voters
NJ has a hybrid/closed primary system which means only those who have selected a party affiliation will be able to vote in that party's primary election. All registered voters can vote for whoever they want in the general election, regardless of party affiliation (theirs or the candidate's).
MAY 20: Voter REGISTRATION deadline for the primary election
JUNE 3: Deadline for unaffiliated registered voters to DECLARE an affiliation in time to request a mail-in ballot
JUNE 3: Deadline to apply for a Mail-In Ballot for the Primary Election BY MAIL
JUNE 3-8: Early Voting Period (at select locations)
JUNE 9: Deadline to request a mail-in ballot IN PERSON
Submit your application in person at your County Clerk's office.
OCTOBER 14: Voter REGISTRATION deadline for the general election
OCTOBER 25 - NOVEMBER 2: Early Voting Period (at select locations)
OCTOBER 28: Deadline to apply for a Mail-In Ballot BY MAIL for the General Election
NOVEMBER 3 (by 3:00pm): Deadline to apply for a Mail-In Ballot for the General Election IN PERSON
